Absolutely fucking horrific. I’m struck by the many instances in this roundup in which the IDF seems hyperfocused on eradicating people and places that might embody care & tending, as if to sever the possibility of a care economy, by and for Palestinians, from taking root. And the perversion of aid sites, self-described by the IDF as an ostensible effort of expressed care (which IMO more exist to serve a perverse argument in which they can’t possibly be genociding if they are at least attempting to feed people), instead becoming new sites of annihilation. It seems to me there is a goal to leave no psychic or physical territory free from the looming shadow of possible death or mutilation. A total eclipsing of possibility, of any life-affirming expressions of basic humanity & dignity.

Don’t know if Glazer was deliberate in connecting the family scenes in “Zone of Interest” behind a wall separating them from the horrors on the side, with Israelis currently chilling on the beaches of Tel Aviv while a genocide is happening behind a wall just kilometres away. But I know I couldn’t help making the connection while watching the film.

"global zone of interest" thanks for this, especially the photo comparison of Bethlehem playground - people are making these connections more and more, at last

I truly can’t understand what goes on in Jonathan Greenblatt’s evil little brain. Does he really think that the majority of registered voters in New York City give a damn about the ADL’s opinion? I canvassed for Mamdani, and the volunteers included people of races and religions. No amount of ADL-approved Hasbara is going to counteract 50,000 volunteers. One side is saying all people should live with dignity and the other side is literally starving and murdering a captive population.

This just keeps getting worse. Every time I think it can't get more depraved, it does. They're not just destroying every form of life in Gaza. They're systematically erasing the possibility of life, of renewal, of a future. This is what Genocide is.

Reminds me of Srebrenica - they systematically slaughtered thousands of men but spared the women - not out of mercy. It was strategy. They didn't have to murder everyone for it to constitute genocide. The intent was to erase a people, 'purify' the land & prevent future life.

What's happening in Gaza is on a far greater scale. Unlike anything we've witnessed so far.

What is there left to say, as we watch with open eyes what humans are capable of? To go to such lengths, not just to kill, but to make life itself impossible. Why?

I keep circling the question - how can humans love their own children & show empathy for their own circle but are okay with watching others burn and even justify it? Are humans that adept at compartmentalizing? Out of sight, out of mind? 🤷

Maybe continuing to ask these questions prevents us from normalizing any of it. But the UN report just came out naming all the companies profiting from this genocide. We're all familiar with the companies. We use their services. And, I think it confirms what you said that we do live in the zone of interest now, so it's already been normalized for us. Evil embedded in the mundane, everyday machinery of our lives. Disturbing 😳

I’m biased as an educator, but the IOF in camps indoctrination stuff is disturbing, albeit not surprising.
